About Me!

Hey there! I’m Sarah; the founder and voice behind American Daughter. If you’d like to know a little more about me, who I am and why I started this site, this is the place to be.

Blogging is my passion. I’ve been writing on the internet since I was 13 years old when I started my first online journal, and have never stopped. All through high school I poured my energy into reading and writing; working on the school newspaper and then continuing my journalism hobby at college, where I spent 4 awesome years, majoring in English Lit. After a little travelling- a few road trips and some volunteer work teaching overseas in India, I decided to settle down in my home state of Connecticut and start a family. I’m now 28 and have taken on writing as my full time job, spending my days working on freelance assignments as well as my own page here. American Daughter is my number one focus at the moment, and I hope my passion and excitement is reflected on the page.

I’ve been happily married to my wonderful husband Christopher for the past 4 years. He is truly amazing and supports my work 100%, even when I keep him up late at night loudly pounding away on my laptop. We met in college and have been inseparable ever since. Our wedding day in 2009 was one of the happiest, most thrilling days of my life; second only to the day our daughter, Becca, was born. She is now 2 and a half years old and is totally adorable and the love of my life, despite all the sleepless nights!

Raising a child is crazy hard, especially when you’re a stay at home mom and spend most of your day alone with your little one. Becca and the some of the problems I’ve had with her, along with some of the solutions, were a big inspiration for this site. Every mom should get a little help sometimes, and American Daughter is here to provide at least a few answers to some difficult questions. I know that there are other women all over the country battling over mealtimes, managing tantrums and trying to balance their family, work and me-time, and I hope this site can help offer some advice to achieve that.

When I’m not chasing my toddler around or trying to convince my husband to make dinner for once, I fill my time with a load of hobbies and random interests.

As well as my writing work online, I love to journal and keep track of every day that passes; both the good times and the bad. I also love photography, and am forever snapping pictures of my family and friends and editing them. When I’m feeling stressed or worried I make collages of all my favourite pictures, or hit the gym for a long run on the treadmill. Fitness is a huge part of my life, and I think I’d go crazy if I couldn’t stress my sweat out a few times a week! I also love to read, from trashy novels to some more serious stuff, and you’ll never find me without my Kindle. The most important book to me is my Bible, which I read every day, and write reflections on before bed.

The inspiration for American Daughter came in church, where most of my lightbulb epiphany moments happen. I realised that the internet was full of websites dedicated to superficial stuff like style blogging or more serious things like politics, but that the average American woman was really looking for something different. I know that, at least for myself, my interests and hobbies were more diverse than these other sites reflected. I wanted a place where I could find style and fashion tips as well as advice on raising kids and having a happy marriage. I’ve struggled in the past to manage my money properly, especially when it came to paying off student loans and saving up for our wedding, so it’s really important to me that good financial advice is featured on American Daughter. Of course, we can’t cover everything, but hopefully you’ll find a good range of tips, advice and some fun stuff too on this site.

So that’s me! I’m really just a regular old American girl, but I don’t think there’s anything I’d rather be.

Have a look around and please enjoy American Daughter. I’m always here behind the screen ready to answer any questions or take on any comments you might have. Have an awesome day!
